About VUUR

The VUUR story sparked to life in 2021, when our friend Shaun Scrooby, chef and founder of VUUR, approached us with a vision built on fire, storytelling, and wine. He saw the potential in our old horse stables beneath the ancient oak tree, and knew it was the perfect setting for this immersive dining experience.

VUUR, meaning fire in Afrikaans, is both the method and the heartbeat of the kitchen. Every dish is crafted over open flames, and each plate is paired with a Remhoogte wine chosen to deepen the narrative of flavour. Food moves directly from fire to table, carrying the smoke, heat, and immediacy that define the experience.

The concept quickly caught the attention of guests and critics alike, culminating in the opening of VUUR Goose Island in December 2023 — an intimate chef’s table that invites more guests to gather, connect, and experience the elemental magic of VUUR.
