Chenin Blanc has long been woven into the story of South African wine. Once known locally as Steen, it has grown from a workhorse grape into one of the country’s most celebrated varieties, capable of producing wines of remarkable depth, texture, and longevity. In Stellenbosch, where site and climate shape wines of structure and precision, Chenin Blanc has found a powerful voice.
At Remhoogte, that voice is carried most clearly through Honeybunch Reserve Chenin Blanc.
Honeybunch made its debut in 2011 with the release of the 2010 vintage, introducing a Chenin Blanc that would become one of the estate’s most treasured expressions. It was born from a desire to show the very best expression of Chenin Blanc from the estate — a wine that could speak with purity, confidence, and a true sense of place.
The Honeybunch vineyard is a remarkable 2-hectare block planted in 1988, now recognised as a Certified Heritage Vineyard in South Africa. Its age, site, and consistency make it one of the most important vineyards on the property. With the ability to produce only around 20,000 bottles a year, it remains limited by nature, shaped by the character of the vines, the growing season, and the quiet strength of the site.
For Chris and the team, Honeybunch represents the purest expression of Chenin Blanc they can craft from the estate. The vineyard offers fruit of depth, balance, and quiet intensity, allowing the wine to show both richness and restraint. Every vintage is guided by what the vineyard gives, rather than by force or formula, allowing the site to remain at the centre.
Honeybunch is more than a Reserve Chenin Blanc. It reflects patience, site, and trust in an exceptional vineyard, a wine that carries the story of old vines, Stellenbosch, and the Remhoogte estate in every glass.
